AbstractThe combined knowledge of natural and socioeconomical resources becomes more and more important to guide the process of sustainable development. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and database were used as tool for the spatial data analysis. In the present work the interannual behavior of some soil variables (pH, phosphorus, potassium and organic matter) in response to soil type and chemical composition was verified, during the period of 1990 to 1997, in two districts of the municipality of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul State. Over the time frame of 8 years the soil types presented, in general, the same behavior with low to medium content of all analyses variables. The Spring software proved to be an efficient GIS to perform the several procedures involved in this work.
